ATTENTION MEN: The Real You is Sexy!
Unnaturally skinny female models have been a hot topic for a while now. People are worried about how these impossible images in the media affect women's self-esteem, as they should be.
However, the idea that men's self-esteem might be damaged by images of hairless male models and perfectly sculpted actors is not often discussed. But why not? Studies have shown that 40 percent of men reported dissatisfaction with their overall physical appearance.
The Aerie clothing line made a big splash in 2014 when they hired female models with more natural-looking bodies and stopped retouching any of their images with Photoshop. As a result, their sales grew by 10 percent.
After this success, Aerie decided to spread the self-love even more by launching #aerieMAN; a body-positive underwear campaign for men. According to their website, #aerieMAN is a celebration of real men who love themselves inside and out.
